RISE Self-Evaluation

Image
For the RISE Self Evaluation, we take a look back at our time throughout the month and really take into consideration what we learned and how well we did. It's a great way to look critically at your work ethic, your attitude, and your overall learning experience to further expand upon it in the future.

Fictitious Project Revision

Image
Throughout the month we worked with a client brief to produce a website, which was for Reel Deal Tacos. After the initial "launch" we got various feedback from peers and our instructor to then make changes with to produce our final finished project. This activity was meant to showcase our ability to take criticism and feedback and apply it and to overall enhance upon something that we have begun to build skills for. BEFORE AFTER REEL DEAL TACOS REVISED WEBSITE The first major change I made was to the navigation bar and logo. I took the entire website out of the ADI and into the Editor so that I could manipulate the size of the logo even further, really pushing it to a larger size and reshaping and formatting the header. The navigation bar was slightly small, so with the change in the logo, I changed the font and size of the navigation tabs to be easier to use as well. The next major change I made was to the overall pattern of color blocking throughout each pa...

RISE Portfolio Review

Image
This activity was a great way for us to look critically at other portfolios and to provide feedback. It's also a great way to see what others are doing that way we can look back at our own work and make adjustments.

Draft Portfolio Site

My Website! So this activity was taking what we researched and learned from our last activity, and putting it to use! We created our own personal portfolio sites to showcase our experiences, our goals, and ultimately who we are to set ourselves up for our future careers. I'm pretty happy with what I created considering it's all very basic and can change in the future. I think that my color scheme is really nice and although I love it, I do see how it may not be exactly what is best for my image or brand. But overall, I enjoy the look and feel of it right now so I'll continue to sleep on it before making any more big decisions! In the future I definitely see myself utilizing and updating this website, although probably not how most of my instructors would want me to. Considering the field of work I'd like to become involved in, some of the required pages don't necessarily help me to be there, but updating and showcasing my projects and work could make an impact...

Portfolio Inspiration

Portfolio Inspiration Video For today's assignment we were to research and analyze three websites of media professionals within the industry we would like to be a part of. I chose my three favorite authors and wanted to see how they characterized their personal styles and genres as part of their websites. This activity was to really get us thinking about how we want to present ourselves and how we want our sites to be similar or not when we go to create them.

Diigo Exploration

For today's assignment we were to research three articles focused on media, whatever that may be. By researching more on a topic of our choosing, we could learn more about the ways media enhances or hinders ones personal brand or portfolio. By doing this we can learn valuable skills moving forward as we begin to build our own portfolio websites, and start to really build our own brands for our future careers. The first article I chose to take a look at was "27 Things to Put on Your Portfolio When First Starting Out" mainly because I am one of those individuals, who really doesn't see the need for a personal portfolio website considering my desired career. Although I can see how it can be helpful, I really don't see a lot of my audience careening towards that outlet so it's kind of something that I don't focus on. As such, this article gave me a lot to think about!  "Killer Site Design": By simply having something awesome to look at, regardl...

Fictitious Site launch

For this activity, we were to go ahead with our proposals and to create the website for our fictitious client, Reel Deal Tacos. Taking into consideration the sitemaps and wireframes we set up in our proposals, we were to create the website and ensure its functionality, aesthetic, and overall usability. Were you able to meet all the provisions outlined in your proposal? For everything I outlined in my proposal I was able to create it on the WIX platform. I was able to almost replicate my sitemap and wireframes, and I believe that it all works together relatively well. Did you propose or promise something you could not deliver? In my wireframes, I designed the header to look different than what I was actually able to create. I found that WIX wouldn't allow for certain movements or changes to media and design so ultimately I had to stick with something similar. What was the most challenging part of the process for you? The most challenging part of the process was havin...

Content Management Systems (CMS)

For today's assignment, we were tasked to pick where to host our fictitious client's website. It's important to build a website that is aesthetically pleasing, user-friendly for both the viewer as well as the managers and also a website that has all the features that are wanted and necessary. CMS websites are great assets for any small business, as it completely bypasses the need to know coding or programming. For my website, I chose to go to WIX for various reasons. It gives the options to work off of predesigned templates or to pick and choose elements basically building the site from scratch. It's easy to manipulate, allows for the transfer of information or sections easily, and allows for tutorials and site management help instantly. I've played with WIX before, having decided a few months ago that it was the platform I wanted for my own website. Although I have gone ahead and premade a personal portfolio site, there's still so much that can be done to m...

Writing For The Web

Image
AAANNNDDD we're back! The assignment for today was to learn about how to write for the web, specifically how to format and ensure that what's being said is understandable by the world at large. All the practices highlighted within the Lynda tutorial were to ensure that we have the basics of understanding how to create a user-friendly experience. The two pieces of media we were to create are meant to showcase the skills we've learned, that are meant to be posted to our fictitious business website. BLOG POST: Welcome to Reel Deal Tacos, where fresh ingredients can be found wherever the ocean breeze hangs in the air, and where the sun shines brightly overhead. Proposal Presentation

Image
Welcome back! For today's assignment, we were asked to make a proposal presentation for our fictitious client, Reel Deal Tacos. This needed to include: an entire proposal focused on goals/objectives, a strategy plan, as well as an implementation plan. It also needed to include a sitemap and website wireframe so our potential client would see our ideas for their brand. And then of course at the end of it all, we needed to put it into a slideshow presentation and narrate it! The purpose of this activity was to really give us the experience of researching and developing ideas for a client, and ultimately, how to go about physically demonstrating our ideas and skills.

Competitor Research

Image
The purpose of this lesson was to find three competitor companies in the same area as our fictitious client, Reel Deal Tacos. We were to examine their logos and websites for effectiveness and ultimately to see what Reel Deal Tacos could learn from them. It's important to see what the competitive market is doing to reach out to customers and to set themselves apart. Websites: www.RobertosTacoShop.com www.GalaxyTaco.com www.CityTacosSD.com

Content Strategy

Image
Our first lesson for this week is focused on how a media strategist can develop a successful and complete game plan for a company to ensure that their content is being received in the way that they want it to be. In which case, we were given the task of watching a Lynda tutorial all focused on the different scenarios one might find themselves in when trying to produce such a strategy. By actively participating in this activity, we can gain a more in-depth knowledge of the content strategy process, and ultimately how we can apply ourselves and these techniques in future projects and jobs.  I really enjoyed the idea of creating personas for your audience, and how ultimately by doing so you can find better ways to understand how your traffic may respond to your mission, company, or overall product/service. I also really enjoyed learning about qualitative and quantitative audits, because these processes allow for employees and content creators to know what they need to be doing an...
