Wk3 Analysis: Businesses & Audiovisual Media/Curating 5
Full Sail has a great knowledge on how to deliver a message in a way that focuses on the human connection. Through their video, they established that the school and it's curriculum is focused on providing their students with the best possible knowledge and tools for their given future careers. They put this information against visuals of students physically handling these programs and tools, which are real world studios and sets. The video also shows students working together, furthering their network circles and overall showing the type of community that the school offers as well. What I love most about this video is how everything is tied in together in one cohesive story. Sure their main promotion is the lunchbox system, but it's not the only item they are promoting, and instead just showcase it as a byproduct of what you will gain as a whole when you join the school and its programs.
You can then compare this to the Dollar Shave Club commercial, where they announce a new product which is butt wipes. I know....butt wipes? When I first saw this I was like...you promote razors for shaving...and somehow tacking on butt wipes is the next step? Sure, ok. This commercial goes along with the rest of their advertising in style, and overall focus on comedy and punchline delivery. I wouldn't say there is a story to this commercial per say, mainly because the scenes flash from one to the next showing different instances of taking a dump. It's also heavily male oriented, in which case they even advertise it as a male product, so for myself as a female viewer, it was really weird.
Now the Science World video was a fun one, although way too long and (in my personal opinion) badly organized and produced. I feel like they definitely could have worked on their lighting before shooting the video! But the story itself was a fun one, that science doesn't need to be taken too seriously, that everyone no matter what age can enjoy it, and that those who world for Science World love to share the knowledge! I'm a big fan of one take videos such as this, where the use a pretty popular or commonly known song, and have everyone partake in it. It's crazy and hectic, but it usually pays off. Of course they were also showcasing this video to help bring in customers because they renovated their building, so a one take does that a lot of justice in allowing viewers their new buildings and galleries!
Overall each video was a different approach to advertising, and are successful in their own ways. My personal favorite would be the Full Sail video because it was produced well and included various media to tell a story. For the two other videos I felt like they were lacking in some aspects and with a little more time or thought, they could have been even better.
